Exploring Light and Shadows with Elm Tree Theatre

Elm Tree Theatre is seeking to expand the way we work with very young / early years audiences by developing a theatrical experience that explores dimensions of light and shadow. We need to explore some potential large and small scale light and shadow opportunities (using objects, coloured light, large and small screens, and children as shadow-makers). This project seeks to develop a range of offerings for children to test so that we can learn more about what resonates for them, and how they respond and make meaning with the materials we offer. This very early exploration work is essential before seeking to develop a production.

Research Assistant on Climate Responsibility, Care and Contemporary Art

This research focuses on the work of contemporary and media artists engaging climate change and equity through speculation or by action-led initiatives. The project also mobilizes hope as a powerful stimulus for rethinking relationality, community-building and multi-species survival on Earth in the face of the climate crisis. The project explores what hope means individually and collectively; the differences between the “I” and the “Other.” This research poses the following questions: How do contemporary artists and thinkers engage with pressing contemporary issues like climate change? What is the inherent difference between what artists produce versus tech developers or scientists and why does this difference matter? What imaginaries do artists invite us to inhabit through their work? What do contemporary artists hope for?
