Welcome to TUIO! We are thrilled to present an exciting opportunity for talented students to contribute to our innovative project, Competitive Intelligence: TUIO Summer Marketing Internship Challenge.


Project Goal

  • The primary objective of this project is to conduct a comprehensive competitive analysis of key players in the daycare and school management software market. Students will analyze email nurture campaigns, content, communication strategies, customer acquisition tactics, sales processes, market positioning, and the technology and tools used by competitors. The goal is to gain actionable insights that will inform TUIO's marketing and strategic decisions, ensuring we stay ahead in the competitive landscape.

Main Objective:

  • The primary objective of this project is to provide TUIO with a detailed understanding of the competitive landscape by examining the marketing and communication strategies of Procare, Lillio (HiMama), BrightWheel, TADS, and FACTS. Students will gather and analyze data to uncover strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) in the competitors' approaches. The outcome will be a set of actionable insights and recommendations that TUIO can use to enhance its own marketing efforts and strategic positioning.

Project Creation Considerations:

  • Clear Project Goal: The goal is to perform a competitive analysis, focusing on specific marketing and communication aspects of key competitors.
  • Required Experience Level: Students should have basic knowledge of digital marketing, competitive analysis, and data analysis tools.
  • Realistic Timeframe: The project is designed to be completed within 60 hours over 2-8 weeks, ensuring that the scope is manageable and achievable.
  • Project Scope: The scope includes understanding and executing various competitive analysis tasks, providing a deep understanding of competitors' strategies and their impact on market positioning.

Expected Outcome:

By the end of the project, students are expected to achieve the following outcomes:

  • A comprehensive report detailing the findings from the analysis of email nurture campaigns, content, communication strategies, and other marketing efforts of competitors.
  • A set of recommendations and actionable insights for TUIO to enhance its marketing strategies and improve its competitive positioning.

Task 1: Analyze Email Nurture Campaigns

  • Description: Analyze email nurture campaigns of competitors and offer insights on their customer engagement and conversion efforts.
  • Details:
  • Subscribe to competitors' email newsletters and drip campaigns.
  • Observe and document email frequency and timing.
  • Perform content analysis focusing on subject lines, body content, types of content, and CTAs.
  • Analyze segmentation and personalization based on demographics, behavior, interests, or buyer's journey stages.
  • Deliverables: Maintain data in a spreadsheet, save all downloads/emails with name_date_hierarchy, and present a synopsis in a PPT or Google Doc format.

Task 2: Analyze Content, Communication, and Campaigns

  • Description: Conduct a thorough analysis of competitors' content, communication, and marketing campaigns.
  • Details:
  • Content Analysis:
  • Analyze the types of content produced (blogs, videos, podcasts).
  • Identify topics and keywords targeted.
  • Evaluate content quality and audience engagement.
  • Communication Channels:
  • Observe social media engagement and platforms used.
  • Subscribe to newsletters to understand email marketing strategies.
  • Monitor press releases and media coverage.
  • Campaign Analysis:
  • Analyze online advertising strategies (Google Ads, Facebook Ads).
  • Track promotions and offers.
  • Look for patterns in seasonal campaigns.
  • Customer Acquisition Tactics:
  • Study lead generation methods.
  • Analyze conversion funnels.
  • Review customer testimonials and case studies.
  • Sales Process:
  • Examine sales collateral and follow-up strategies.
  • Monitor customer feedback and reviews.
  • Market Positioning:
  • Compare strategies with industry benchmarks.
  • Identify unique selling propositions and market differentiation.
  • Technology and Tools:
  • Use analytics tools to gather data on web traffic and online visibility.
  • Employ social media monitoring tools to track engagement and sentiment.
  • Pricing:
  • Analyze pricing tiers, bundles, discounts, promotions, and value perception.
  • Deliverables: Maintain data in a spreadsheet, save information with name_date_hierarchy, take screenshots, save links to landing pages in a doc, and present a synopsis in a PPT or Google Doc format.

Final Deliverables:

  1. Competitive Intelligence Report:
  • A comprehensive document summarizing the findings from the email nurture campaigns, content analysis, and campaign analysis.

  • A presentation (PPT or Google Doc) summarizing key insights and recommendations.

For students: To validate the completion of your work, please submit deliverables as uploaded files with a reflection note at the end of your project. These files can take various formats, including Word documents, PDFs, JPEG images, presentations, and more. We request tangible proof or an example showcasing your completed work. If the project involved an Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), please provide redacted deliverables or a sample of non-confidential work.

Employer Commitment

Our company is committed to providing a minimum of 5 hours of mentorship per team. This mentorship will be tailored to address specific project challenges, offer career advice, and foster a supportive learning environment. The mentorship sessions aim to complement the technical guidance and ensure that students not only complete the project successfully but also gain valuable insights into real-world applications of their skills.

  • Slack Channel: A dedicated Slack channel will be set up for real-time communication, quick questions, and project updates.
  • Email Updates: Weekly email updates will be sent to keep students informed about project milestones, deadlines, and any changes in the project scope.

Scheduled Meetings:

  • Kick-off Meeting: An initial meeting to introduce the project, set expectations, and outline the project timeline.
  • Bi-weekly Progress Meetings: Meetings held every two weeks to discuss progress, address challenges, and provide feedback.
